Our students are able to move beyond simply learning about technology and engineering concepts and actually use, program, troubleshoot, and problem-solve with technology themselves. The hands-on nature of the project gives students an opportunity to see how the skills they are learning in the classroom can be applied to real-world situations.\r\n\r\nWhat is most exciting to our students is that they get to make something happen. Instead of simply reading about coding, robotics, or artificial intelligence, they can write a program, test it, see the robot respond, and then figure out what needs to be changed when it doesn't work as expected. There is a lot of excitement when students successfully get their robot to complete a task they have designed. Even the inevitable mistakes become learning opportunities because students have to think critically, collaborate, and troubleshoot to figure out what went wrong.\r\n\r\nOne of the most rewarding parts of this project has been seeing students who don't always consider themselves \"science or technology kids\" become engaged. Students who may be hesitant to participate in traditional classroom activities are often willing to jump right in when they are given a robot and a challenge. The technology provides different ways for students to demonstrate their strengths—whether that is through coding, creative problem-solving, building, communication, or teamwork.\r\n\r\nThe project has also helped students develop perseverance. When a program doesn't work the first time, students learn that failure isn't the end of the process—it is part of engineering. They make adjustments, try again, and learn from the results. Those are valuable skills that extend far beyond our STEM classroom.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, this technology has helped our students see themselves as creators and problem-solvers rather than just consumers of technology. We are incredibly grateful to our donors for making these experiences possible.
