These new books have sparked excitement and deep thinking among my students.\r\n\r\nThrough these texts, students are building important reading and writing skills. They're learning how to find evidence to support their ideas, understand how authors create meaning through word choice and structure, and think about larger themes like family, identity, and courage. These lessons align with our English standards, but more importantly, they help students see reading as something meaningful and connected to their own lives.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is anything but silent. You'll see students annotating, discussing in small groups, and writing creative responses that connect to the books. We talk about why characters make certain choices and what lessons we can learn from them. It's a space where students learn not only to read stories, but to think critically and compassionately about the world around them.\r\n\r\nSome students who haven't always seen themselves as \"readers\" have fallen in love with The Crossover. Its rhythm, energy, and themes of family and basketball make it accessible and fun. Others are completely absorbed in A Wrinkle in Time, inspired by Meg's courage and imagination. Both books have opened doors for students to connect with reading in new ways.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has made this possible, and I can't thank you enough for supporting our students' learning and love of reading.","fullyFundedDate":1758831565862,"projectUrl":"project/poetry-and-science-to-explore-the-world/9380430/","projectTitle":"Poetry and Science to Explore the World!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Quinton","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10044224_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1748308758229","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10044224"},{"teacherId":9901209,"projectId":9069028,"letterContent":"We are so excited to be using our new LEGO builds and STEM supplies in the classroom! My students jumped right in the moment they saw the materials—there was a buzz of excitement as they began exploring the different pieces and possibilities. One student said, \"This is the coolest day of school ever!\" which really captured the energy in the room.\r\n\r\nWe recently used the new LEGOs for a team-based engineering challenge where students had to design and build a prototype of a machine to help solve a real-world problem. It was incredible to watch them collaborate, test ideas, and apply their learning in such a hands-on, meaningful way.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generous donation, my students are not only building structures—they're building confidence, teamwork, and creative problem-solving skills. Next, we'll be using these materials in a unit on renewable energy, where students will create simple wind-powered or water-powered devices. Your generosity is making a real difference, not just by filling the shelves, but by opening up new worlds for my students. Many of my students have difficulties with reading, and learning how to read deeply and think critically about a book takes practice. With these new texts, we are building essential skills such as making inferences, analyzing characters, understanding themes, and using context clues to decode unfamiliar words. Through guided discussions and hands-on activities, students are learning to engage with books in meaningful ways, connecting literature to their own lives and the world around them.\r\n\r\nIt has been especially heartwarming to see certain students light up with these new books. One reluctant reader, who often struggled to find stories that interested him, has become completely absorbed in one of the graphic novels. Another student, who used to feel overwhelmed by longer texts, is now eagerly sharing insights about characters and their choices. Seeing their confidence grow is a direct result of having access to engaging, high-quality literature, something that your generosity has made possible.\r\n\r\nWith these books, students were able to chose a project that represents a book of their choose. One example was I introduced an example of having students will write a series of diary entries from the perspective of a main character. Students will learn about understanding what the character goes through and how we can learn from those experiences. \r\n\r\nI also explained that this project would help them practice writing creatively while thinking critically about the events of the book. They were encouraged to use their imagination, but also to stay true to the story's events and the character's feelings. I told them this would be an opportunity to express what they learned from the book in a personal, creative way, and that they could add personal touches (like drawings) to make their diary feel authentic.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in my students' learning and for helping to create a classroom where books inspire curiosity, discussion, and an interest of reading. Your kindness is shaping young minds in ways that will last a lifetime.","fullyFundedDate":1730733517538,"projectUrl":"project/supporting-students/8910261/","projectTitle":"Supporting Students","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Richter","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9820189"},{"teacherId":9820221,"projectId":8910302,"letterContent":"My students have absolutely loved the materials sent to them. As a first year teacher, the new materials have also brought life to what kind of classroom I want my students to be able to access. \r\n\r\nThe most popular of the items has definitely been the sensory bins. Right now I have rice and beans in them along with letters and numbers. They are not only great for sensory play, but also the activities that the kids can do with whatever is in the bins makes for endless learning opportunities. \r\n\r\nAdditionally, the mailboxes and rolling storage \r\ncart have provided a place for my students to put their work inside to take home and have provided an easy storage space for smaller activities and manipulatives that my students can access more easily. \r\n\r\nThank you so much for providing for my classroom!","fullyFundedDate":1730399499420,"projectUrl":"project/mrs-pooles-classroom-project/8910302/","projectTitle":"Mrs. Poole's Classroom Project","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Poole","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9820221"},{"teacherId":9813131,"projectId":8897907,"letterContent":"The students I work with have been in awe of my new items! The comments and immediate curiosity has been such a joy to witness. I have utilized everything so far with purpose and intention to build positive connections, teach coping skills, and increase emotional learning with the students. \r\n\r\nSpecifically, the variety of new fidgets have been very helpful in keeping the students' hands busy while maintaining focus with the topic we're talking about. The zen garden and sand scape have brought a sense of calm to students when they have charged emotions. And one of the most useful resources for promoting coping skills has been the manual paper shredder. The students write their worries, frustrations, and negative thoughts on a little piece of paper and then can actively shred up those thoughts to help them physically feel relief. I have students now who will independently go write out their negative thoughts and shred it up without me prompting them to do so. It seems so simple, yet works wonders! \r\n\r\nThank you so very much for the kind donation and support to my role at my school. The sensory and emotional tool were items that were purchased were items I have been hoping to get for awhile but unable to fund them myself. I have used these new resources for all of my students as a way to build, create, or engage with peers in my room. Some students have come into my classroom upset or having a lot on their plate. When they have had a chance to use these items, they had a opportunity to get back on a emotional level in order to be ready to learn but also a way for them to find time to come up with the words they have needed to express whatever is on their mind. \r\n\r\nAll of my students have been very excited to use the new materials from the brain flakes, magnet tiles, and the social emotional stories. These materials are some that are highly requested to use throughout the week.
