Story and picture books have a unique way of educating students and supporting them around thoughts and feelings they do not always fully understand. The books provided through your donation broach some very important topics (one example: depression) that are sometimes hard for grown ups to talk about with kids. The books have given me an opportunity to share some information and that has lead to meaningful discussion. The books have provided practical strategies for students to practice and try to help them stay calm and connected. \r\n\r\nThe self regulation tools provided (i.e. calming strips or fidgets with motivational sayings) have been utilized by students in my office, in their classroom and even out into the community. These self regulation tools are small, discrete and easy to use in so many settings. I have even been able to borrow some to teachers that can then utilize them for many of the students in my building. \r\n\r\nWords can not express how grateful I am to have access to these materials. I will have the opportunity to utilize these resources for many years to come which will impact students I have not even met yet! Pretty cool to think about.
