The root-viewing growth chambers and mini whiteboards have already become central tools in my 7th–12th grade science classes.\r\n\r\nMy 7th graders jumped in immediately by planting vegetables in their new chambers. It is great to see that they have this real sense of ownership over their \"gardens.\" Being able to watch roots develop in real time changed the way they talked about plants. They documented growth daily, looked for patterns, and compared observations from one chamber to another. Their excitement peaked during our phototropism discussions. Students pointed out how their seedlings bent toward the window and discussed why the roots didn't respond the same way. Several students also told me it was the first time they truly understood that seeds carry stored energy before plants switch over to photosynthesis. That moment of connection wouldn't have happened without these chambers.\r\n\r\nThe mini whiteboards have been just as impactful across all grade levels. I use them for think-pair-share, quick checks for understanding, and problem-solving. Students who normally hesitate to speak up suddenly have a safe way to show what they know. Engagement has climbed because feedback feels immediate and judgment-free. I've watched quiet students lean over their boards with real confidence, and it's changed the tone of the classroom.\\\r\n\r\nThese materials helped my students to explore, question, and participate more fully in science. I'm grateful for your generosity and for the curiosity you've helped spark in our small community.","fullyFundedDate":1757969478911,"projectUrl":"project/whiteboards-in-science/9715370/","projectTitle":"Whiteboards in Science","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. DeMars","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10262144"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_76006","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":414,"numTeachers":19,"percentFrplEligible":42,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":88,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":6,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"21.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":75.0,"schoolId":76006,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Battle Lake School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Battle Lake School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/minnesota/battle-lake-independent-school-district-542/battle-lake-school/76006"}
