All students deserve to have items that spark their imagination and allow them to express themselves in different ways. The paint, variety of paper and magic tracing boards your donations purchased help to meet those goals.\r\n\r\nIt is kind of magical how a young child's eyes light up when they get to use materials they might not get to outside the classroom. One of their favorites every year is paint in all of its various forms. The students love to blend the different colors and explore how different applicators- fingers, brushes, daubers, sponges etc.- can create different results. Having these materials in our art center might be a child's only opportunity to use them and we thank you that your support allows us to provide these experiences.\r\n\r\nAnother area critical to preschool development is fine motor skills. These activities strengthen children's hands, refine small movements and are essential building blocks for being able to effectively use writing instruments as they get older. One really cool way we have found to encourage students to build their pre-writing skills is by using magic tracing boards. They draw pictures, practice writing letters and numbers and some even start to make words and sentences. Then by \"magic\" they can erase it and start all over again. I've worked in every one of our eight classrooms teaching them about handwashing. Because of your kind donation I've been able to show them a real world example of how washing their hands correctly can impact the spread of germs. \r\nEach child is delighted to see the orange lotion all over their hands. They then eagerly run to the bathroom to practice our washing techniques. When they come back to me and see the orange lotion is gone (or not gone!) they learn something huge about how well they're washing and how to protect themselves and their friends from germs.
