Your donation of our new classroom rug may seem like a simple addition to a classroom, but to my students and me, it means so much more. This rug has quickly become a special part of our classroom and a place where learning, connection, and countless memories will take place throughout the school year.\r\n\r\nIn a second grade classroom, so much of our day is spent learning together, sharing ideas, asking questions, solving problems, and building relationships. Having a comfortable and welcoming space where students can come together makes such a difference. Our new rug gives us a designated place to gather for morning meetings each day. During our morning meetings, we start the day by connecting with one another, talking about our goals, sharing our thoughts, and preparing ourselves for the day ahead. The rug creates a warm and inviting space where every student has a place to belong and feel like an important part of our classroom community.\r\n\r\nThe rug will also be used during whole-group instruction. Instead of students always learning from their desks, they now have the opportunity to come together, sit comfortably, and engage with their classmates and teacher. Whether we are reading a story, learning a new math skill, discussing a social studies topic, practicing phonics, or sharing something exciting we have discovered, our rug provides a space where students can be close together and actively participate in our learning. It encourages students to listen to one another, share their ideas, and learn collaboratively.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite things about this rug is that it is not only a place for instruction, it is also a place where students can simply feel comfortable. During independent work time, students are able to choose to work on the rug when they want a change of scenery from their desks. Some students enjoy spreading out with their books, notebooks, or math materials and completing their work in a more relaxed environment. Giving students choices about where they learn helps them discover what environments allow them to do their best work.\r\n\r\nMore importantly, this rug helps make our classroom feel like a home away from home. I want my classroom to be a place where students feel safe, welcomed, valued, and comfortable being themselves. A classroom is more than four walls and desks, it is a community. Creating cozy, inviting spaces helps children feel that they belong, and that feeling of belonging can make a tremendous difference in how students approach learning and their school day.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has helped create a space that will be used again and again throughout the entire school year. Every morning meeting, every whole-group lesson, every independent reading session, every classroom discussion, and every quiet moment spent working on the rug will be a reminder of the people who believed in our students and wanted to make their classroom experience even better.\r\n\r\nAs a teacher, I am incredibly grateful for people who recognize that the little things can make a big difference in a child's education. Your donation has provided my students with more than just a rug. You have helped create a space for connection, learning, comfort, creativity, and community. We use it all day long. My students love having a place to sit that is cushioned, rather than just the hard floor! \r\nIt is such a colorful item in our classroom and everyone who visits loves how warm and inviting it makes the classroom feel, as well. It brightens up the space so much. \r\nLast school year, I did not have a rug and often students sat haphazardly in the area in front of my Smart board. This year, we don't have that problem. They love having their own spot that is just their own. We even incorporate fun things into our daily procedures like using their color of smiley face to line up with.
