Although it has been a few years since I requested these items and your giving fulfilled my project, the ideas behind it are still alive and well. My newspaper club meets weekly for 6 months of the school year. The students choose their topic of interest, write their rough drafts, edit their work, paste it onto digital slides, and send their digital paper out to the student body. The items you funded enhance the work we do. The camera and film are used to first take photos of each author. We have a giant bulletin board in the school atrium with printouts of their work and photos of the fabulous writers. I love that we can use their photos as a celebration of their creativity- in a world where more praise and value is often placed on students with athletic abilities, rather than intellectual abilities. \r\n\r\nThe candy and prizes encourage the rest of the students in the school and after-school programs to participate in writing clubs and contests. It is such a treat to reward writing and showcase its non-academic merits and qualities. Again, thank you for making this happen for us!","fullyFundedDate":1639004639540,"projectUrl":"project/a-camera-and-some-captions/6038322/","projectTitle":"A Camera and Some Captions","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bosh","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4138995_orig.jpg?crop=667,667,x538,y918&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1758459346877","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-bosh"},{"teacherId":4138995,"projectId":8629918,"letterContent":"Thank you again so very much for funding this project for our classroom. We have been using our IXL online membership every day, multiple times a day. Upon entering the classroom in the morning, students grab a computer and answer math review questions while they eat their breakfast. They love to brag about how many digital \"medals\" they have earned by mastering new math concepts. For me, this tool has been enlightening, as I can access students' answers from my computer, and see how well they are doing or exactly where they are misunderstanding a certain type of question. \r\n\r\nMy advanced students are loving the website the most. My time is most often spent with students who are struggling, so this has been a great resource to be able to give my advanced kids a good challenge by assigning them higher level questions without taking my time away from students who need me the most. I am even able to access below-grade level activities to assign to my students who need to go back to the basics. Students were each given their own pair of headphones that could be used during independent work time. This allows students to be responsible for their own learning by completing assignments and activities on their own. We use a variety of online platforms for student practice and these headphones allow them to work on their own. They are able to listen to instructions, play the games, and complete assignments. \r\n\r\nThese headphones have also helped with testing so that those students who struggle to read can have the tests read to them without being a distraction. They have their own headphones to be able to go at their own pace. This has been a great alternative for struggling students. \r\n\r\nLastly, they love being able to listen to music or play games during indoor recess.
