The students in my classroom come from quite a diverse group of backgrounds and academic abilities. One-hundred percent of our student body receives free breakfast/lunch provided by the school. Many students come from time-poor families, meaning their parents or guardians work multiple jobs and don't always have the privilege of time to reinforce academics at home. Over years of being in this situation, the achievement gap between them and their peers in wealthier school districts widens. Despite the high poverty level and the obstacles that face them, my students come to school full of heart and determination, ready to learn and work hard!
