We also use this for nutrition education for the families to show them various items they would be able to purchase with their WIC benefits and the children then show their parents what they want to try. By doing this it involves the family to learn and grow together to become more adventurous with foods.\r\n The animal hugs are my favorite for the children as the nurse I perform hearing, vision, hemoglobin and blood pressure screenings. As you can imagine a child between the age of 12 months and 5 years gets anxious, may cry or try to hide as to avoid any of these. When I am screening the children I allow each child to choose a name for our favorite green dinosaur. I tell the kids that they need to be brave and strong like our dinosaur and that he/she and I can do room visits if they or anyone in their class just needs to be a little braver or get a hug from myself and their friend. Furthermore, the paint cups have come in handy, keeping the mess to a minimum and allowing children to explore the art area freely!
