The art supplies you provided through \"From Crayons to Courage: Art Tools for Emotional Growth\" are now part of our daily routines—helping my first graders express themselves, explore feelings, and build confidence through hands-on creativity.\r\n\r\nOne of our favorite moments so far has been connecting portrait painting to our Social Studies unit on \"All About Me\" and family/community. With their new materials, students created self-portraits that showed not just what they look like, but who they are—their favorite colors, symbols of their families, and little drawings representing the people who care for them. As they painted, they shared stories about siblings, grandparents, pets, and neighbors, and we talked about how all of these people form their community. For many of my students, this was the first time they had ever created a portrait of themselves, and the pride on their faces was unforgettable.\r\n\r\nThe reaction when they first saw the art supplies was pure joy—eyes wide, hands instantly reaching, and excited chatter filling the room. These tools have given them permission to be creative, expressive, and brave in ways that traditional paper-and-pencil work doesn't always allow.\r\n\r\nBecause of you, my students are not only learning academic content—they're learning to see themselves as important members of a community and as artists who have something meaningful to share. It was something brand new to most of students so it took a little time for the students to adjust to something being introduced outside the home. I had to build trust and understanding of the benefits to a healthy lifestyle. After receiving the yoga mats and practicing in our free time, the students became very fond of their new exercise and meditation routine. The students started to center their energy before class and during testing. They started out asking to do yoga and energy entering and before long they were doing it on their own. I have been super proud of my class for trying to incorporate something new and exciting to their lives.\r\n \r\n My students learned Yoga this year and took this new skillls home to teach their families this new heathy lifestyle. I had parents calling and thanking me for teaching their child something they can expand and use for a life time.
