The snacks and incentives have become a helpful part of our music classroom and have provided my scholars with both encouragement and support throughout the school year.\r\n\r\nThe snacks have been used as rewards for positive behavior, participation, effort, and meeting classroom expectations. They have also provided an important option for scholars who arrive at school without having had breakfast. Having Nutri-Grain bars available has allowed me to make sure that a scholar who is hungry can have something to eat and be better prepared to participate and learn during music class.\r\n\r\nMy scholars were excited when they first saw the variety of snacks and incentives available. They were especially excited to learn that their hard work, positive choices, and participation could be recognized with a small reward. Over time, these incentives have helped create positive moments in the classroom and have given me another way to celebrate students for their accomplishments.\r\n\r\nAs we continue through the school year, my students will be working on developing their musical skills through activities involving rhythm, notation, melody, composition, and performance. I will continue using the snacks and incentives to encourage students to participate, challenge themselves, work cooperatively, and make positive choices in the music classroom.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping me support my scholars not only as music students, but as children who sometimes need a little extra encouragement, motivation, or something to eat before they are ready to learn. Your generosity has provided my elementary and middle school music students with meaningful opportunities to learn, create, and experience music through hands-on piano activities.\r\n\r\nFor my elementary students, the piano has made concepts such as rhythm, melody, pitch, scales, and musical notation more interactive and engaging. Students are able to immediately apply what they are learning and experience the excitement of hearing these musical concepts come to life.\r\n\r\nFor my middle school students, the piano has opened up opportunities to explore chords, scales, harmony, songwriting, and composition. Students can experiment with creating their own music while developing their understanding of music theory and performance.\r\n\r\nThe impact has even extended beyond my music classes. Several staff members who play piano have been able to come into the classroom and share their talents with our students. The biggest hit so far has been Bingo. At least once a week, one of my scholars asks if we can play. I have been using the fidget toys, as well as goodies from the dollar store, as game prizes or behavioral incentives, and the scholars love it.\r\n\r\nMy scholars were both curious and excited when they first saw the new materials. Some of them immediately realized that they were games, and expressed their joy and excitement. Many scholars tried to guess what they were and how I planned to use them. There were even some who thought I was going to be giving the materials away as prizes for good behavior. Even now, despite the fact that they are learning games, my scholars are all still very excited about the materials that I have received for this project.\r\n\r\nMy scholars have just completed their Quarter 2 Winter Numeracy Assessments. The majority of them did extraordinarily well, but there were a couple (specifically, my scholars who are chronically absent) whose scores were dangerously low. In order to prevent them from becoming considered for retention, I plan to give some special attention to these scholars by tailoring my small-groups with them to better address their needs. I believe that the Number Bingo, Sums in Space, and the Addition or Subtraction boards from the Math Board Games set would all be helpful in this. I don't, however, want any of my other scholars feeling left out, so I will also play some math games with them during small-groups to help keep them sharp.\r\n\r\nMy class and I are all so thankful that you have funded this project to make school and learning more enjoyable. It truly makes learning (and teaching) more fun, and we appreciate that you gave us this opportunity. It has made a big impact in my class. Students are able to test in private without being distracted. Printing has been a breeze and I am able to bring pages to life with the color. This grabs the attention of the students and they score better on their quiz. The multi cultural books came in the right time as I have an ELL student who really enjoyed the stories that brought his cultural to the class.
