We JUST got our new kitchen island which was built by our school's constuction class. The stools are the right height for our island and provide a comfortable and sturdy seating option for our students. Our classroom kitchen is homey and functional. \r\n\r\nOur kitchen has been a \"work in progress\" for the past few years. We have converted a regular classroom in an old elementary building into a beautiful cooking classroom for young adults with special needs. Most of our kitchen items, from lumber to countertops to cabinets and appliances are donated materials. Our students love working in here and it is a popular and highly requested class. Our new island and stools are the finishing touches and have really given our classroom the \"WOW\" factor it was missing. Their cafe' area is beginning to look like a professional cafe' with professional looking bins with visuals on them so that they can sort the products to keep things neat. When using the cash register, we have noticed an increase in efficiency with money handling if the student also works in the store. The cool sign just adds a fun touch to their workspace!\r\n\r\nWhen the packages started to come in, they were so excited! They helped unwrap the boxes and take the items down to our cafe' area where we began applying the visuals, and making the space look more like a professional cafe'. \r\n\r\nWe will continue to work with money skills (adding up amounts, making change, etc.). We will also start to make specials but I also think into looking into taking some kind of card payment. I'll have to gage parent interest and get admin approval first, but using cards to pay would also provide real world experience that they can practice here at school.\r\n\r\nThank you again for all of your generous donations. My students do need significant support to show appreciation and express gratitude, but you can see on their faces that they really do enjoy the new supplies to expand their school day.","fullyFundedDate":1730807672611,"projectUrl":"project/mcweebs-cafe-coming-soon/8484903/","projectTitle":"McWeebs Cafe', Coming Soon!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Sheets Webb","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2537803_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1516304582186","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2537803"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_105673","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":78,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":11,"percentWhite":69,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":11,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":53.7,"schoolId":105673,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Mixter School for Transition on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Mixter School for Transition","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/michigan/lincoln-park-public-school-district/mixter-special-education/105673"}
