My students enjoyed this activity. \r\n\r\nThey had a difficult time finding the micro-organisms in the beginning. Once they added the red dye they could see the movement. They saw the organisms eating the food and the other organisms eating the prey.\r\n\r\nThe micro organisms were didinium, paramecium, and yeast. It was amazing, the students could not stop watching the action. I think it was better than a video game on their phones. I heard so many voices during this activity. \"Swim away\", \"Oh no, he didn't make it\", and etc.\r\n\r\nAfter the lab activity the students completed a lab report about the energy flow in food webs. They were also sad about how I had to dispose of the micro-organisms. I had to freeze them and throw them in the trash. They could not be disposed in the sink, a public water system.\r\n\r\nIt is so difficult to complete with social media and digital games in today's world. I try to provide stimulating activities for the students and this one hit it on the nail.","fullyFundedDate":1758516914797,"projectUrl":"project/energy-flow-in-food-chains/9549649/","projectTitle":"Energy Flow in Food Chains","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Crawford","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10160259_orig.jpg?crop=1931,1931,x0,y341&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1759525561303","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10160259"},{"teacherId":10160259,"projectId":9577134,"letterContent":"Thank you for your donation of class pouches for my class. It may seem like a simple jester, however, it had a large impact on my classroom management. \r\n\r\nI try to provide many hands-on learning activities as possible, the students learn by experience and movement. They recall information better because they did it instead of reading about it. \r\n\r\nIn the past, I would have student supplies in different bins and the students would have to get the supplies prior to the activity. This was a waste of time and I had to make sure everything was set up for the next class. I teach high school with fifty-eight minute period and a seven minute passing time. \r\n\r\nNow, with your donation, I have all the supplies set up and readily available to all the students. It is just amazing how this simple act has changed the culture of my classroom. I just smile when I see the students automatically go get the supply pouch at the beginning of class and return it, fully intact at the end of class. It is personalized for each student. \r\n \r\nAn additional note, I have had students borrow the supply pouches to complete assignments/activities for other classes. \r\n\r\nThank you for your support!","fullyFundedDate":1758516914578,"projectUrl":"project/lets-get-organized/9577134/","projectTitle":"Let's Get Organized","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Crawford","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10160259_orig.jpg?crop=1931,1931,x0,y341&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1759525561303","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10160259"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_72915","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":810,"numTeachers":53,"percentFrplEligible":69,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":28,"percentWhite":53,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":6,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"15.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":81.8,"schoolId":72915,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Lincoln High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Lincoln High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/michigan/lincoln-consolidated-school-district/lincoln-high-school/72915"}
