When the shelving arrived, students were excited to see how much more organized our inventory could be. They immediately began thinking about how we could arrange our drinks and food items so that products would be easier to find, restock, and monitor. What may look like a simple storage upgrade has become another opportunity for students to take ownership of the business.\r\n\r\nStudents are now using the shelving to organize our inventory by product type and make restocking more efficient. As they work, they are learning that successful retail involves much more than interacting with customers—it also requires organization, inventory management, teamwork, and attention to detail. Having a dedicated, professional storage system allows students to experience these responsibilities in a way that closely mirrors what they would encounter in an actual retail business.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue refining our inventory system and having students monitor which products need to be restocked and how efficiently we can keep our store supplied. They will use their observations to make decisions about organization and inventory as we continue operating throughout the school year. I am so grateful to you for giving my students the opportunity to learn these skills through authentic, hands-on experiences. Students are using the boards to create polished displays for their projects, including marketing plans, financial information, charts, and other visuals that support their presentations. Having sturdy, professional-quality materials has allowed students to focus on the content and delivery of their presentations rather than worrying about how to display their work. It has been especially rewarding to see students take ownership of their boards and carefully organize their information to make their ideas clear and engaging for judges.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials arrived, our students were excited to have resources that made their hard work look as professional as they felt it deserved to be. The foam boards also helped ensure that every student had access to the same quality of materials, regardless of what they might otherwise have been able to provide themselves. With the support of Horace Mann, our students can continue developing the communication, organization, creativity, and presentation skills that DECA is designed to build.
