Reading is an important part of our daily routine, and these books help us introduce new vocabulary, build listening and comprehension skills, recognize letters and sounds, and encourage a love of reading at an early age. During story time, we gather together to look at the pictures, make predictions, ask questions, and share our own thoughts and experiences. Our students love turning the pages, pointing out familiar objects, repeating favorite phrases, and connecting the stories to their own lives. These books also help us practice important social-emotional skills, such as kindness, sharing, friendship, and understanding our feelings. Our students are especially excited when they recognize a favorite story and get to share it with their classmates.
