Teaching art to elementary students has always brought me joy, and when tasked with teaching art to a group of Kindergartners with special needs, I knew I would find this unique challenge very rewarding. The main hurdle was finding art-related activities that my students were also interested in, that would also help support their fine-motor development. Each week when my students arrive at art, they are presented with 6 different stations. One station is the art making station where we might paint, draw or use scissors and glue. The other stations are made up of manipulatives that you so generously allowed me to purchase for my classroom. \r\n\r\nThe first week that the students were able to use the new manipulatives, I was curious what would be their favorite. The first week, the ice cream scoop sorting toy was the favorite. Though many of my students struggle to communicate verbally, we still talked a lot about ice cream! The next week, everyone wanted to use the puzzles and to my delight, I found one student who is an absolute puzzle master! \r\n\r\nMy students are loving the new manipulatives, and I love seeing their growth.","fullyFundedDate":1733274701249,"projectUrl":"project/creative-centers-in-the-special-educatio/8872013/","projectTitle":"Creative Centers in the Special Education Art Room!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Drake","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9800945"},{"teacherId":8815173,"projectId":7637042,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your donation!
