The reindeer antlers and jingle bells instantly excited students and helped them fully immerse themselves in our seasonal music activities. We used these songs daily in class—learning melodies, practicing rhythms, adding movements, and working together to create a polished performance. One especially meaningful moment was watching students who are usually shy light up as they realized they knew their music and could sing proudly with their classmates.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new music, they were genuinely excited. Many recognized holiday themes right away and couldn't wait to start singing. Having age-appropriate, engaging concert music made rehearsals more focused and fun, and it helped students understand what it means to prepare for a real performance.\r\n\r\nThe next steps for my students include building on these skills as we move into our next unit—reading music more independently, singing with greater expression, and continuing to develop ensemble skills. The confidence they gained from this concert will carry into future performances and everyday music lessons. Instead of taking turns with limited supplies, more students can actively participate at the same time, which has made our lessons more engaging and inclusive.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new mallets, their faces lit up with excitement. Many of them had never held a real mallet before, and they were eager to try them out right away. There was a noticeable sense of pride as they carefully held them and followed our classroom expectations, knowing they were using \"real\" music tools. Hearing the instruments ring clearly for the first time was a moment of pure joy for many of them.\r\n\r\nRight now, students are using the mallets to practice steady beat, simple ostinatos, and melodic patterns during ensemble activities. This is where students are pulled for small group to work solely at their level. Students spend 9 weeks researching a specific bug while learning about each others bugs along the way.
