As a music teacher at Grosse Pointe South High School, I have the privilege of working with students on the autism spectrum during our first hour of class. \r\nYour funding has made a significant impact on their musical education and emotional growth. \r\nThanks to your contributions, we now have a variety of shaker eggs, wood blocks, and handheld instruments that allow my students to engage actively in our music sessions. These instruments not only enhance their singing and listening experiences but also foster a sense of joy and creativity. Many of my students find comfort and expression through music, and your generosity has provided them with the tools they need to explore their talents. Your support has created a more inclusive and enriching environment for our students, and I cannot thank you enough for your kindness. Together, we are making a difference in their lives, and I am truly grateful for your commitment to education and the arts.","fullyFundedDate":1731527008388,"projectUrl":"project/adaptive-music-materials/8920326/","projectTitle":"Adaptive Music Materials","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Gross","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/carolyn-gross"},{"teacherId":9785247,"projectId":8842864,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous donation to help our school provide mental health support and strategies to our students! We have been able to complete many activities throughout the school year all free of cost to our student population, culminating in our 'Wellness Week' during March 17-21st. Through these activities, students have had the ability to gain knowledge about their mental health. \r\n\r\nStudents were able to walk away from the week with a better understanding of their own mental health and how to support themselves and others. By hosting other events throughout the year we were able to keep the conversation about mental health and strategies. Both awareness and skill-building were emphasized in all we do. \r\n\r\nSome of our favorite activities we were able to complete with your support focused on art therapy and the benefits of self-care through art. Students decorated pumpkins in the Fall, and then during Wellness Week they made friendship bracelets and buttons/pins with the beads and stickers bought with donations. Another favorite activity this week involved plant therapy and the discussion of the benefits of working in nature. Students decorated small pots and planted succulent clippings to root and grow. \r\n\r\nThank you for your help and support in making this happen!","fullyFundedDate":1727874810190,"projectUrl":"project/mental-health-and-wellness/8842864/","projectTitle":"Mental Health and Wellness","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hester","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9785247"},{"teacherId":9787438,"projectId":8849421,"letterContent":"I cannot thank you enough for the mosaic materials you provided to my Humanities class. \r\n\r\nDuring the week of midterms, the students gathered in the room to share in mosiac making (akin to those that stemmed from Greco-Roman ideals), and had to create an image that related to any work we studied this year. Music was rocking, they were all smiles, and had a great time. As one student wrote:\r\n\r\n\"I decided to make my mosaic of the cultural iceberg we touched on in the beginning of the year. It was a simple yet significant topic of discussion that I believe applies the most to the common day. The iceberg allows for people to shift perspectives and see beyond the things we immediately notice when taking in other cultures. They surface level of many cultures are things like clothes, language, and food, yet it feels like many forget about the more deep rooted things that go unnoticed in the everyday. Things like respect towards elders, work expectations, and even just different approaches on life are what allow cultures to be so diverse in so many ways. Although some things in cultures are not visible to the eye, it is vital to remember that they exist and to try and always be respectful of such things.\" \r\n\r\nI am so thankful for your investment in our classroom, it made for a wonderful and meaningful day!","fullyFundedDate":1727922552930,"projectUrl":"project/mental-health-mosaic-break/8849421/","projectTitle":"Mental Health Mosaic Break","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Lulis","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9787438_orig.jpg?crop=170,170,x0,y7&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755520301552","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/the-compassion-classroom"},{"teacherId":9785362,"projectId":8843114,"letterContent":"Students regardless of age love playing! The inclusion of Play-Doh, for instance, has aided in visualization activities. Students have used it to model brain structures, depict abstract psychological concepts, and create representations of cognitive processes. This tactile, hands-on approach has made complex ideas more accessible and memorable, encouraging active engagement and fostering creativity in ways that traditional methods often cannot achieve.\r\n\r\nThe blank cards provided for gratitude exercises have been instrumental in teaching the principles of positive psychology. Through these cards, students have practiced expressing gratitude to peers, teachers, and family members, reinforcing the benefits of acknowledging and appreciating the positive aspects of their lives. This simple yet powerful activity has had a ripple effect, improving classroom morale and helping students develop a more optimistic outlook. Many students have reported feeling more connected to one another and more grounded in their personal lives, thanks to the practice of gratitude.\r\n\r\nFinally, the iPad, synchronized with my Smart Board, has enhanced day-to-day instruction by making lessons more dynamic and interactive. I can now move freely around the classroom while annotating, illustrating concepts, and incorporating multimedia resources directly into my presentations. This tool has allowed for real-time adjustments to lessons based on student feedback and participation, creating a more responsive and inclusive learning environment. The combination of these donated items has not only enriched the educational experience but also demonstrated the power of community support in fostering academic and personal growth.","fullyFundedDate":1727544573939,"projectUrl":"project/ms-parents-psychology-classes/8823198/","projectTitle":"Ms. Parent's Psychology Classes","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Parent","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9778921"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_73241","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1113,"numTeachers":87,"percentFrplEligible":17,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":85,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":3,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"12.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":91.5,"schoolId":73241,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Grosse Pointe South High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Grosse Pointe South High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/michigan/grosse-pointe-public-school-district/grosse-pointe-south-high-school/73241"}
