It is a meeting place for me to read books aloud as a group. It is a space for groups to meet to work together. It is a place where kids get cozy to read all throughout the day. Students often race to get a space on the rug during independent reading time. \r\nI dream about the day my classroom has carpet but until then I will find ways to bring in more rugs to cover the cold, hard cement floor. The day the books arrived, students buzzed with excitement as they unpacked stacks of new stories and explored all the new titles available to them. The addition of a designated book bin for Spanish-language books has been especially meaningful. Our multilingual learners now have a wider range of high-interest texts they can enjoy and fully access.\r\n\r\nSince the books arrived, I've seen students reading more widely, taking risks with new genres, and enthusiastically recommending books to one another. Even previously reluctant readers are seeking out novels in verse, graphic novels, and other engaging formats and finishing books more consistently. Our classroom feels much more like a true community of readers as students talk about books constantly, trade titles during transitions, and celebrate each other's reading accomplishments. This strengthened reading culture is a direct result of your kindness and belief in our students.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for sharing your love of reading with our class! Your support has given my students not only new books, but new confidence, joy, and connection as readers.","fullyFundedDate":1764725857274,"projectUrl":"project/books-that-spark-fueling-fifth-grade-re/9858285/","projectTitle":"Books That Spark: Fueling Fifth-Grade Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bassett","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3844507_orig.jpg?crop=1206,1205,x0,y349&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1761339398524","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/toni-brew"},{"teacherId":9630195,"projectId":9533070,"letterContent":"Because of your generosity, our classroom library has become an even more powerful place for learning and belonging. These new texts are helping students build critical skills like making inferences, identifying themes, analyzing characters' choices, and expanding academic vocabulary. Just as importantly, they invite students to see themselves and others in stories, which sparks meaningful conversations and deeper understanding. We always talk about how books can be mirrors, reflecting their own lives, or they can be windows, looking into how others live. \r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is active and joyful. Students read independently, every day. You'll often find them pausing to jot down thoughts, discuss a surprising moment with a partner, or eagerly recommend a book to a friend. The new books have increased engagement across the room—students are choosing to read during free moments and are more willing to take on challenging texts because they feel connected to the stories.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who were once hesitant readers have been especially excited by these new books. One student who rarely finished a chapter book proudly completed their first full novel, while others light up when they recognize experiences or emotions similar to their own. These moments are powerful, and they are possible because of you. Thank you for helping create a classroom where every student feels seen, supported, and excited to read.","fullyFundedDate":1760542666592,"projectUrl":"project/new-year-strong-start/9533070/","projectTitle":"New Year-Strong Start","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Straszheim","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9630195"},{"teacherId":1741462,"projectId":9291182,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your donation to our classroom. Our old middle school building was renovated last year and turned into the 5th/6th buildnig. Funds were low and there are no supplies stockpiled anywhere.
