My students often come to school for their basic needs to be met, along side their educational goals. When I saw majority of my students don't have the essential of a water bottle and were growing lethargic throughout the day, I knew something needed to be done.\r\n\r\nWhen I received the water bottles, I immediately unpacked them and washed them. The next day I had each student pick their color and I wrote their name on them. Each morning they come in and refresh their water to have throughout the day. When I showed them the water bottles, they lit up and one even came to me and said, \"do I have to share?\" and when I said \"no\", they said \"it's mine?\" Just a small water bottle has allowed my student to have ownership of something.\r\n\r\nYou know when a plant is wilting and you put water in it and come back a few hours later to a perked up plant? That is exactly what my students did. They are ready to grow their brains especially when all their basic needs are met including water. So again, thank you for your donation. By this time last year, my students were struggling. They were not able to coordinate letters together until February or March. Because of your donation, this year we are already creating 3 letter words and it's only September.\r\n\r\nWhen my students saw the materials that were ordered, they lit up with excitement and several kept saying \"thank you\" on repeat. They haven't had the kind of materials that were ordered before and they were super excited to use them. They also are being very gentle with them and taking great care of materials so we can use them for years to come. \r\n\r\nLiteracy challenges are huge in my district. Over 70% are not at reading level so seeing students work hard to overcome the statistic is very exciting for me as a teacher.
