The students were so excited when the boxes began to arrive. I think the biggest hit was definitely the kitchen because who doesn't like to make fun snacks for their teacher? (I have had lots of delicious things made for me in the kitchen so far!) When children get the opportunity to play and we reverse our thinking about what is developmentally appropriate for early childhood classrooms, we see the effects in the social realm the most. When students have those skills to problem solve, share, make a plan, or build a creation, those skills translate into their academics in the form of tackling tough problems or reading a new word. They translate from the care shown with our stuffed animals with our new vet set into taking care of our friends. Legos have allowed teams to come together to create some pretty amazing structures! It truly is one of my favorite things about kindergarten; the growth they make as little learners. We have been very excited to see what has been coming in the mail for us. Now that everything has arrived, here are a few stories to share with you. \r\n\r\nWhen my students saw the wiggle stool, they were instantly very curious about it. There were lots and lots of questions about it. Students have been enjoying becoming my \"Secret Student\". Each day at the end of the school day, I pick a \"secret student\" and they are able to sit on the wiggle stool the following day. A \"secret student\"'is someone that has exhibited excellent behavior that day. The Geomakers have been a huge hit also. Students have enjoyed being hands on and creating different shapes.
