Students can self-regulate their emotions by visiting the calm corner when they need a moment to collect themselves. I have witnessed students who come into the classroom visibly upset and ask to visit the Calm Corner for 10 minutes. I watched their emotions deescalate. I've also watched students screaming at other students and I've invited them to the Calm Corner, where they sat and calmed down. \r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the Calm Corner, their eyes got big and smiles suddenly appeared on their faces. I described the purpose, and they agreed that it was needed. Many said they couldn't wait to use it. Our students practice Calm Classroom techniques so, I hope that students will use both Calm Classroom and Calm Corner to help them take ownership and control of their emotions. If they are successful now, it will help them as they mature into adults.","fullyFundedDate":1731283995894,"projectUrl":"project/comfy-calm-corner-for-my-scholars/8699958/","projectTitle":"Comfy Calm Corner for my scholars","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Johnson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/184414"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_59479","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":303,"numTeachers":18,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":98,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":0,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"16.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":61.6,"schoolId":59479,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Paul Robeson Malcolm X Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Paul Robeson Malcolm X Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/michigan/detroit-public-schools-community-district/paul-robeson-academy/59479"}
