The students were super excited when I showed them the new Lego Kits. My students are all about Legos and when they learned that they could manipulate them to make the Legos move and react based upon how they were constructed, I have never seen them more engaged in a lesson than when we used them. These kits even helped my students develop their social-emotional skills, by how the students wanted to make sure that they got along with their classmates. They went out of their way to help each other be successful with their builds and were sure to use proper manners when working with a teammate. \r\n\r\nOur class length for STEAM Enrichment is only 45 minutes and students always want it to last longer when they are building with Lego. Students are getting an opportunity to experiment with forces, motion and interactions in the context of a variety of sports that they might not have learned about before in a hands-on way. Some students built the catapults that shoot a basketball into the hoop. Other students built a hockey game with a shooter and a goalie. Additionally students built a car that was powered by a Lego pushing mechanism. Students can't wait to learn about more sports and the various forces that go into making them possible.\r\n\r\nI am forever grateful to our donors who made this possible. My current and future students from Hillcrest Elementary will be forever grateful for the kindness and generosity that you have shown us.
