Nerds of the North provides a safe space, with adult supervision, where students can be themselves and meet new people. We stress the importance of finding friends in other grades, which can be difficult and scary in high school. The supplies from this project went directly to students and have improved the mental health of our club members. \r\n\r\nPerhaps it seems odd to link food and games to mental health. However, our school community is in a low socio-economic area. MANY of our students struggle with food insecurity. By providing free snacks at Nerds of the North, we ensure that any student who wants to attend can have food; many students are able to stay at the club sessions longer because they know they'll be fed after school. Nerds of the North only meets once a month, so we want each session to feel like a family or holiday party! Food is an important part of creating the right atmosphere. Fostering positive experiences at school promotes better attendance, social acceptance, and feelings of belonging in our students.\r\n\r\nThis project was approved in October, so the materials were unveiled at the November and December club sessions. The new snacks and games were received with much joy! Kids especially appreciated the wide variety of snacks!! I still have plenty of supplies left, so we will continue to have snacks and games at future meetings.\r\n\r\nThank you for funding this project and for promoting positive mental health in our schools.","fullyFundedDate":1729545038264,"projectUrl":"project/nerds-of-the-north-gaming-club-supplies/8893708/","projectTitle":"Nerds of the North: Gaming Club Supplies","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hansen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9811038"},{"teacherId":9793547,"projectId":8858617,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for donating supplies to our art classroom here at Clare High School. Your generous donation to assist with supplies is greatly appreciated. Students have had such a wonderful time using the Cricut supplies and creating stickers for mental health. They also have been enjoying and experimenting with the paint markers and paint. Using these supplies has been a great creative outlet for my students and ultimately creating a positive impact on their mental health as well.
