With the diverse range of books on ancient civilizations such as the Aztec, Inca, and Maya, along with literature on the Renaissance, Reformation, and Oceans, my students are now able to delve deeper into subjects that pique their interest. These resources not only support the new ELA curriculum but also allow students to explore topics independently, fostering a love for learning and discovery. The props and decorations, like the crown, knight helmet, and jellyfish, add an engaging, tactile element to our lessons, transforming our classroom into a lively, interactive learning environment.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite classroom moments occurred during our Don Quixote unit. With the crown and knight helmet, students took turns dressing up and being ceremoniously dubbed as a Lady or Knight after reading the story. This hands-on experience brought the literature to life, allowing students to actively participate in the narrative, which significantly enhanced their understanding and enjoyment of the material. The excitement and laughter in the classroom were palpable, and it was heartwarming to see the students so engaged and connected to the content.\r\n\r\n Additionally, I am looking forward to teaching an upcoming unit on the Renaissance, where I plan to incorporate art and music to create a cross-disciplinary experience. This approach will not only enrich the students' understanding of the period but also inspire them to appreciate the interconnectedness of different fields of study.","fullyFundedDate":1763597045385,"projectUrl":"project/engaging-in-our-new-ela-curriculum/9490539/","projectTitle":"Engaging in Our New Ela Curriculum","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Wilber","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp558332_orig.jpg?crop=2048,2048,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1719973676155","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/558332"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_70951","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":519,"numTeachers":19,"percentFrplEligible":52,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":23,"percentWhite":57,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":7,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"27.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":87.0,"schoolId":70951,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Ottawa Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Ottawa Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/michigan/chippewa-valley-school-district/ottawa-elementary-school/70951"}
