Students have access to poster board, markers and laminating materials to make their projects look professional. These items have been a great addition to the classroom and will be used by student throughout the year. My school district is located in a very rural, low income area. Last week, students were able to return home with bags of hygiene items. Likes like deodorant, toothbrushes, and even shampoo and conditioner. Now, anytime a student is in need of more hygiene items, they can take it from the self care station with no questions asked. \r\n\r\nMy students reacted very well to this station, most of the out of curiosity. 3rd grade is when hygiene items become especially important. Students asked several questions when it was first introduced. They now all understand that it is a safe space for them to take the essentials they need. \r\n\r\nWe recently had another project funded where students will have access to snacks throughout the day. Many students do not have access to food and hygiene item regularly. They are not loud and distracting to the students who do not need them but keep the student that does busy but engaged. I appreciate the way students use these as a way to keep their hands to themselves while still being an active part of the classroom. It helps in keeping students in the room, instead of having them take a break to walk outside of the classroom. This improves the time they have to listen to instruction as well as be a part of group interactions. \r\n\r\nThese are great tools and I have loved having them added to my classroom. We also used them recently for a school dance, so they are a permanent fixture on the stage. The original thought was temporary lighting to set up each and every time we wanted to use these lights. \r\n\r\nThere were many nice comments from the audience members as well as from the students. Boring LED white lights on a stage doesn't do much for music. As a child who grew up with trauma in their life, I understand first hand how troubling it can be on a Monday morning when you have been shifted around from home to home during the weekend. \r\n\r\nHaving something that children can hold and take ownership of in the classroom is important. The students were very kind with them knowing that they had to take great care as if the bears were also a child. This also fits with my \"golden rule\" in the classroom. Ask any of my students from the past 20 years, and they can tell you.....Respect!\r\n\r\nThese bears were also used at our recent Christmas Program. Sometimes sitting and waiting your turn can be a daunting task for little children. Then it's showtime! It their first time in front of an audience of more than 300 adults and children. With limited percussion players, I often expect percussion students to be responsible for as many as 5 different percussion instruments. Before this cart, these instruments would fall off music stands that were used as make shift tables, hit the ground, and further disrupt the song and the musicians. With this cart we now have a soft surface to place our equipment on as well as a way to transport these instruments to our performance gym. This cart is super lightweight, easy to push, and does exactly what I was hoping it could do for our percussion students. \r\n\r\nIt's always nice to have new things in a program filled with so many ancient relics. \r\n\r\nThank you to everyone who donated.
