Before this project, students had limited options when they needed a quiet break, movement, or additional sensory and\r\nemotional support during the school day. New additions such as a basketball hoop,\r\nwalking sensory tiles, bean bag toss, couch, and other sensory materials have created\r\ndifferent areas for students to use based on their individual needs. Rather than relying\r\non one type of regulation strategy, students can choose from a variety of options.\r\nThe Zen Den provides meaningful opportunities for students to explore different types of sensory input while developing functional skills. The basketball hoop and bean bag toss support movement, coordination, motor planning, and attention, while the sensory floor tiles promote balance and body awareness. The couch offers a comfortable space to take a break, relax, and support emotional regulation. By providing both active and quiet options, students can discover strategies that best support their sensory and emotional needs. The space allows students to safely practice these strategies, which can carry over into other school environments and support smoother transitions, improved attention and engagement, and positive interactions with peers.\r\nAs students become more familiar with what helps their bodies and emotions feel\r\nregulated, the goal is for them to use these strategies with greater independence and\r\nconfidence.
