Because of your support, our school year is already off to an incredible start!\r\n\r\nOur new classroom rugs and additional cube chairs have made such a positive difference in our substantially separate Kindergarten classroom. I work with students with profound autism who have a wide range of communication, sensory, behavioral, and learning needs. Having a classroom environment that is structured, predictable, and comfortable is incredibly important in helping my students be successful throughout their day.\r\n\r\nThe new rugs have given us clearly defined spaces for circle time, learning activities, and play. This may seem like a small change, but having those visual boundaries is so helpful for my students. They can more easily see where they are expected to sit or play and begin to understand what is expected of them in each area. The rugs have helped make transitions and routines more predictable while giving us inviting spaces where students can work on attending, participating, and learning alongside their classmates.\r\n\r\nThe additional cube chairs have also been a wonderful addition. Many of my students have difficulty sitting on the rug or need additional support and a clearly defined personal space to feel comfortable and ready to learn. The cube chairs give them that extra structure while still allowing them to be part of the group. Most importantly, they give us another option to meet each student where they are rather than expecting every child to participate in exactly the same way.\r\n\r\nWe have also been able to use these new materials during play and centers. The clearly defined spaces help our students understand when and where different activities are happening and give our staff more opportunities to work on communication, play skills, interacting with peers, following classroom routines, and becoming more independent.\r\n\r\nFor my students, having the right classroom environment can make such a difference. These rugs and cube chairs aren't simply new classroom furniture—they are tools that help our students feel more comfortable, better understand their environment, participate with their peers, and access learning in a way that works for them. Every Friday we read a magazine that teaches students about science and social studies topics. The students look forward to reading the articles together, playing the digital games and most importantly taking home their own copy of the magazine to read at home. Many students do no have access to books and are building their own home library with Let's Find Out! Many parents have commented on how wonderful the magazines are and how much their children are enjoying rereading the magazines at home. Let's Find Out is very engaging and supports kindergarten students in learning complex topics in simple and fun ways. Thank you again for adding this wonderful resource to our kindergarten classroom.
