Palacio! These books have given my students an exciting opportunity to explore important lessons about kindness, empathy, acceptance, and the way we treat others. As we read, we are connecting the story to our Portrait of a Graduate competencies, encouraging students to think about what it means to be a responsible person, a strong communicator, and a thoughtful member of a community. Through Auggie's experiences, students are learning to consider different perspectives, recognize the impact of their words and actions, and reflect on how they can make our classroom and school a more welcoming place for everyone.\r\n\r\nReading has become a special part of our daily routine. At the end of each Social Studies class, we settle in and read one chapter of Wonder together. This gives students something to look forward to each day while building their reading comprehension, vocabulary, and ability to discuss a character's choices, feelings, and motivations. We pause to make connections, ask questions, and reflect on the bigger messages in the story. Having a class set means every student can follow along with their own copy, engage more fully in discussions, and share in the experience of reading the same book together.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has provided more than just books; it has given our students a shared experience that encourages meaningful conversations, personal growth, and a stronger classroom community.
