Draper, The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness, and Ghost Boys by Jewell Parker Rhodes. Having a variety of books available allows students to find stories that interest them while building their reading stamina, comprehension, and confidence. Reading together has also created opportunities for us to pause, make predictions, discuss characters' decisions, and explore the bigger ideas woven throughout a story.\r\n\r\nOne of the most meaningful parts of this project is the way books can open the door to conversations that go beyond reading skills. These stories invite students to think about identity, belonging, friendship, fairness, and how our experiences shape the way we see the world. Through reading together and independently, students have opportunities to consider perspectives different from their own, ask questions, and make connections to their lives and the lives of others. For students who may find traditional academic tasks challenging, an engaging book can provide a valuable entry point into learning, discussion, and self-expression.\r\nYour support has helped us build a classroom reading community where students can discover books they enjoy, share their thinking, and grow as readers. More importantly, you have helped create opportunities for students to build empathy and understanding through literature.
