We truly cannot do it without you.\r\n The tools and materials funded by this project have allowed my students to explore carpentry in the classroom. From cornhole boards and driving simulators to wooden ducks and a masssive hammer for a homemade 'Whack-A-Mole' game, the kids are all excited to imagine, learn, practice, and build. They have learned the importance of 'measure twice, cut once' and at the same time have developed an appreciation for learning from their mistakes.\r\n Perhaps the best result of bringing tools into the classroom is that I now have something more exciting than a screen. Their levels of joy, excitement, and engagement when they have a power drill in their hand are far greater than any Chromebook or iPad can provide. They are as focused as can be and for that I thank the power of woodworking and all of the amazing donors who helped bring these experiences to our students. My current and future students will benefit greatly from having access to a high quality 3D printer as they explore the tools, technology, and skills that will help shape their future. Our kids have been busy designing Mars colonies using 3D design software and will soon be printing them on our new printer, allowing us to see their creations in real life (only much, much smaller!). In addition to the core function of building physical models of student designs, the process of 3D printing requires a high level of patience, focused attention to detail, tolerance of failures, and mechanical problem solving- all important skills for the kids to practice.
