My hope was to get creative with the equipment order in such a way that all things purchased could be used for various different activities. The floor tape came in super handy for the volleyball unit we completed- it eliminated the uncertainty of whether or not a ball was in or out. Kids knew if the ball bounced inside or on the line, it was in. Anything landing outside the boundary marker was out. I plan to use the tape when we have nets for pickleball and badminton. Eventually, I will also do 4-square and you already know, we need boundaries for that!\r\n\r\nSome of the materials in this order are specific to various games from other countries. I find there to be a wonderful benefit to exposing students to sports from other cultures because it helps them develop a sense of appreciation and respect for things that are different. The tchoukball rebound nets will be used in our Games from other Countries unit, which we just started. The dodgeballs were used for lead up games to Team Handball and I am sure that they will be used again.\r\n\r\nThe floor markers have been amazing to help establish crease boundaries for Team Handball. Having a clear visual that students can see helps eliminate confusion during gameplay. Much of the equipment that has been purchased has been used for all school events which has been a blessing. \r\n\r\nMy students always light up when they see new equipment in my closet. I think now that we are almost done with the semester, they are realizing the importance that having equipment plays in a successful PE program. I can tell by the way they care for and treat the equipment that they appreciate it. It is truly beautiful to see how nothing has turned into something. \r\n\r\nWe were blessed once again by incredibly generous donors, including friends, family, as well as the DIck's Sporting Goods Foundation and the Dream Big! Organization. Had it not been for the collaborative efforts of all these people/organizations, I would not be able to successfully teach the variety of sports that students need to be exposed to in their high school years.","fullyFundedDate":1758204568231,"projectUrl":"project/let-the-games-continue-sports-from-aro/9678069/","projectTitle":"Let the Games Continue - Sports From Around the World!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. R","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10216414_orig.jpg?crop=1152,1152,x0,y1088&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755869202543","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10216414"},{"teacherId":10066958,"projectId":9439249,"letterContent":"Thank you SO MUCH for helping to fund copies of \"Little Women\" for my classroom. Since we read this in my Women's Studies class, the book has opened opportunities for students to develop several key literary skills while also maintaining our focus on women's issues. The novel's rich characterization invites students to analyze personality development, motivation, and moral growth across the four March sisters. We also use the text to study narrative structure and themes—particularly identity, ambition, family responsibility, and gender expectations in the 19th century, which naturally translate into the sociological study of women in the home, in education, and at work. \r\n\r\nReading \"Little Women\" in our classroom is an active, collaborative experience! Students have drawn character sketches, delivered small group presentations, completed \"speed dating\" discussions in pairs (pictures enclosed!), contributed to whole-class discussions, and will, upon completion of the novel, write an analytical essay. \r\n\r\nMore than anything, however, I am most moved by the ways in which my students see themselves reflected in the March sisters. I surveyed my students at the start of the year to see what activities they would be interested in doing. Volleyball was clearly a crowd favorite. Knowing this, I spent a considerable amount of time trying to salvage the damaged net that we already had. There were rips, tears, and gaping holes throughout the entire net and I, with the help of a few students delicately patched it back together with staples and a lot of love. However, as you know, volleyball is not a gentle sport- the net sustains a lot of force when the ball is struck, especially on a spike. I soon realized that this would not be sustainable, especially if a lot of students would be using it daily during each class.\r\n\r\nWhen this order came in, you should have seen my kids' faces when they saw the beautiful, brand new, durable nets attached to the standards in the gym. It was yet again, another priceless moment. The air pump needles are important to have on hand because no matter what, sports balls will always need reinflating. The pinnies were used in my Kickball/Alaskan Baseball unit and will also be used in any team game we decide to do. We are starting team handball and they will definitely come in handy. They are very helpful in separating student teams which limits confusion during game play. \r\n\r\nWe were blessed once again by incredibly generous donors, including friends, family, and the Dick's Sporting Goods Foundation. Had it not been for the collaborative efforts of all these people/organizations, I would not have been able to successfully teach a full volleyball unit, and I certainly would not have been able to assist in hosting the school's annual student staff showdown, which just happened to be volleyball this year. A tennis client of mine first recommended I look into this organization as a means of fundraising for the new PE program I was hired to build. Then, shortly after, a colleague of mine graciously showed me how to set up my profile and \"get the ball rolling\" as they say. To date, 4 total projects have been fully funded by donors: friends, family, organizations like Dick's Sporting goods and more, as well as generous individuals from across the country who are passionate in seeing youth be active and healthy! To say I am blessed with this generosity is an understatement. \r\n\r\nWhen I applied for my first project, I did not really know what to expect. I was a little scared it was going to be a total flop but I have never been happier to admit that I was so, so wrong!\r\n\r\nSeeing my students light up when they saw the first packages of equipment getting delivered during class was a priceless moment. One student even asked, \"Is that new equipment really for us?\" Building a Physical Education program from scratch was something I knew would take a lot of time, work, perseverance, as well as trial and error. Just seeing all these things come together has made planning lessons easier and has given me opportunities to teach a wider variety of sport lessons. Everything that I have ordered can be used for multiple purposes. I was able to use the 18\" cones, bases, and playground balls to teach a kickball and Alaskan baseball unit. The small soccer cones have been used to identify player positions on the volleyball court during a volleyball sport unit as well as protectors for the tops of the volleyball standards which can be sharp and puncture balls if struck just right. \r\n\r\nLooking ahead to the future, I plan to incorporate the 5 components of fitness into my lessons and the cones will serve as fitness station markers. The playground balls will be used in our future playground games unit when we play 4-square. All the activities we engage in will not only promote fitness among our youth, but will help challenge, motivate, and sculpt the attitudes and character of the children I seek to serve daily.","fullyFundedDate":1756598495058,"projectUrl":"project/let-the-games-begin-we-just-need-gear/9640993/","projectTitle":"Let the Games Begin – We Just Need Gear!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. R","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10216414_orig.jpg?crop=1152,1152,x0,y1088&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755869202543","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10216414"},{"teacherId":9372392,"projectId":9221722,"letterContent":"Just a quick note to thank you for your generous donation to Abbott Lawrence Academy.
