Through them, students are learning how to analyze characters' motivations, track themes across a novel, and connect literature to their own experiences and the world around them. They are also practicing close reading, building their vocabulary, and strengthening their ability to express ideas in both discussion and writing.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is lively and interactive. Students read independently, in small groups, and aloud together. We pause often to ask questions, debate characters' choices, and make predictions. Students use sticky notes, journals, and discussion circles to track their thinking.\r\n\r\nYour gift has transformed reading.
