Our students love the humor, relatable school situations, and funny characters in his stories. The books are very engaging and often make students laugh out loud, which helps them feel excited about reading.\r\n\r\nThese books help students practice many important reading skills. As they read, students work on understanding characters, figuring out the main idea, learning new vocabulary, and making predictions about what might happen next. Because the stories include a lot of dialogue and humor, students also practice reading with expression and improving their reading fluency.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom happens in different ways throughout the day. Sometimes we read together as a class, sometimes students read quietly on their own, and other times they read with a partner. During these times, many students choose books by Dan Gutman because they are fun and easy to stay interested in. Students often like to share their favorite funny moments with their classmates.\r\n\r\nSome students who were not always excited about reading are now reaching for these books during independent reading time. They enjoy the humor and feel proud when they finish a chapter or an entire book. The headphones allow them to listen carefully to directions, instructional videos, and learning programs without interruptions.
