My students are loving science right now. It has honestly become the best part of our week. We started the year with life science, and now we're moving into Earth's systems and soon the solar system, and the materials you helped provide have made a huge difference in how my kids understand and stay engaged in these big concepts.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first came in, the excitement was immediate. The solar system model has been a game-changer. My students struggle with abstract ideas, so being able to physically see how Earth moves, how day and night work, and how seasons happen has helped everything make a lot more sense. They ask more questions, they stay focused longer, and they actually feel like scientists instead of just trying to memorize facts.\r\n\r\nThe plant kits have also been a huge hit. They love checking on their plants every morning. We've used the heat lamps, thermometers, and humidity tools to compare conditions, make predictions, and track changes. It gives them a real purpose for learning, not just another worksheet. With Earth's systems up next, having things like the pinwheels, weather tools, and simple experiments ready to go has made planning so much easier and the lessons so much stronger.\r\n\r\nMy classroom has a wide range of learners, including students taking the alternate assessment, so hands-on, visual, and accessible materials matter a lot. These resources help all students reach the same science ideas in ways that make sense for them. It's taken a lot of frustration out of the subject and replaced it with curiosity and confidence.\r\n\r\nThank you for supporting our classroom. Your generosity helped me build a science experience that my students genuinely look forward to, and that's something we wouldn't have had without you.","fullyFundedDate":1750771520977,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-science-for-hands-on-learners/9375444/","projectTitle":"Hands-On Science for Hands-On Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Clarke","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7119102"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_62886","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":641,"numTeachers":48,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":47,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":43,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"13.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":52.8,"schoolId":62886,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Up Academy Holland on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Up Academy Holland","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/massachusetts/boston-public-schools/john-p-holland-elementary-school/62886"}
