Because of your generosity, every student was able to have their own copy of Nellie Bly and Investigative Journalism for Kids, and it truly transformed how we experienced this unit together.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is active, thoughtful, and collaborative. Instead of simply listening or sharing a limited number of books, students had the opportunity to fully engage with the text. Our discussions became richer because every student could refer directly to the text, building on each other's ideas and supporting their thinking with evidence.\r\n\r\nThrough these books, students are developing important literacy skills such as close reading, analyzing informational text, and identifying how authors use evidence to support their ideas. They also began to understand the foundations of investigative journalism—learning how asking strong questions, paying attention to details, and seeking multiple perspectives can uncover important truths.\r\n\r\nOne of the most powerful parts of this experience was watching students begin to think like investigators themselves. They started questioning sources, wondering about missing perspectives, and making connections between Nellie Bly's work and issues in the world today.\r\n\r\nSeveral students especially stood out during this unit. One student, who is typically quiet during discussions, became deeply engaged in tracking Nellie Bly's actions and eagerly shared insights about why her choices mattered. Having their own books gave these students a sense of ownership and confidence that made a real difference.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, reading in our classroom became more meaningful, more interactive, and more empowering. Students didn't just read about investigative journalism—they practiced the habits of curious, thoughtful readers and thinkers.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping our students grow as readers, writers, and investigators. Your generosity has had a lasting impact on our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1773868837967,"projectUrl":"project/inspiring-young-investigators-nellie-bl/10130569/","projectTitle":"Inspiring Young Investigators: Nellie Bly for Every 5th Grader","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Hill","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4617783_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1534966369814","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4617783"},{"teacherId":4617783,"projectId":9807372,"letterContent":"I cannot thank you enough for your incredible generosity and support of our classroom. Students were amazed that they could design something on the computer and then watch it come to life right in front of them. \r\n\r\nWe have already begun using these tools to create custom t-shirts and stickers for our classroom and school events. One of our favorite projects so far has been designing shirts connected to our classroom community, where each student created a design that represented who they are. Seeing students proudly wear something they designed themselves has been incredibly powerful.\r\n\r\nYour support has done so much more than provide materials — it has given my students a sense of pride, ownership, and belief in their own creativity. Your generosity has arrived at a pivotal moment as my second-grade team embarks on our first year of a full inclusion model. In our classroom, students with IEPs, multilingual learners, and general education students learn side-by-side. Because of you, \"inclusion\" isn't just a buzzword here—it is a functional, daily reality where every child has the tools they need to access their education.\r\n\r\nWe recently had a breakthrough during a high-energy science lesson. In a traditional setting, the noise and movement might have been overwhelming for some. However, because of your gift, I watched a student quietly reach for a textured sensory strip on their desk while another used a slow-rising stress ball.\r\n\r\nThese tools allowed them to regulate their sensory needs without having to leave the group or miss a second of the instruction. Meanwhile, our new library—featuring the Ali the Great series—has allowed my multilingual learners to see themselves reflected in the stories we read. Seeing a student's face light up when they recognize a cultural tradition in a book is a reminder of why diverse resources matter so much for engagement.\r\n\r\nYour contribution has leveled the playing field for my students. You haven't just provided supplies; you've provided the infrastructure for a community where every learner, regardless of their starting point, can truly thrive.","fullyFundedDate":1755937166452,"projectUrl":"project/bridging-the-gap-with-inclusive-material/9246234/","projectTitle":"Bridging the Gap With Inclusive Material","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Lally","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8780953_orig.jpg?crop=643,643,x571,y153&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1712201144725","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-lally"},{"teacherId":9699633,"projectId":9940942,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support in providing Venom books for our classroom. Because of you, my students now have engaging, high-interest texts that spark curiosity and excitement about animals and how they survive in the wild. These books have quickly become favorites during our Animal Defense Mechanisms unit in ELA, drawing students in with vivid images, clear explanations, and fascinating real-world examples.\r\n\r\nThe Venom books have helped deepen students' understanding of how animals use physical and behavioral defenses to protect themselves, while also strengthening key literacy skills like reading for information, building vocabulary, and discussing evidence from a text. Students are eager to read, ask thoughtful questions, and make connections between what they are learning in science and what they read in ELA. For many learners, especially reluctant readers, these books provide an accessible and motivating entry point into complex content.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, our classroom is a place where learning feels exciting, relevant, and meaningful. Because of you, our classroom is now filled with tools that have made a meaningful and immediate difference in my students' daily learning and well-being.\r\n\r\nThe pencil pouches and notebooks have helped my students feel organized and prepared. Having their own special notebooks for free writing has been especially powerful—students are excited to express themselves, take creative risks, and share their ideas with confidence. Many of them now ask for extra time to write simply because they enjoy it so much.\r\n\r\nThe snacks you provided have also had a huge impact. For some students, a small snack makes a big difference in their ability to focus, stay energized, and feel cared for throughout the school day. It has helped create a classroom environment where students feel supported and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nThe fidget toys have been a game-changer for students who need support with focus and self-regulation. These tools allow students to manage their energy and emotions in a positive way, helping them stay engaged during lessons while feeling successful and calm.\r\n\r\nFinally, the hand sanitizer and cleaning wipes has helped us maintain a clean and healthy classroom. Students take pride in using it regularly, and it has encouraged responsibility and awareness about caring for themselves and others.\r\n\r\nYour kindness has not only provided supplies—it has boosted confidence, comfort, and joy in our classroom.
