The first day I allowed them to use the putty was during one of the puberty lessons. It was a huge help for the kids to have a way to channel their anxiety during what they feel is an awkward topic. The kids liked the approach so much they asked if we could do another puberty lesson - which made me smile.\r\n\r\nThe second time we used the putty for the kids who were presenting their drug and alcohol 'no' strategies and they reported it helped to calm them down before their presentations. And the third time was after MCAS. The students absolutely loved being able to play with the putty and have some downtime after being required to sit still for over three hours. It was so helpful in restoring their peace of mind.\r\n\r\nSO thank you SO SO much for helping me help my students learn to manage their stress and anxiety with such an appropriate and effective strategy. I keep them in a basket right next to my classroom door and the girls know they can discreetly take one whenever they need it. \r\n\r\nThe relief on students' faces when they see that I've stocked up on the supplies is priceless. Access to supplies for basic needs is so important for human dignity and also sends a body positive message. Students who no longer have me for a teacher still stop by every now and again due to a 'surprise' early period, a forgotten pad, or an unexpectedly heavy period that they weren't prepared for - and I'm so glad we can meet their hygiene needs.\r\n\r\nI wish you could see the shy smiles on the kids' faces when they poke their heads into my classroom to check to see if my supplies are still there. And when I see them, they always get a friendly smile of encouragement. Videos and worksheets are great, but being able to read a story with visuals and ideas that they can relate to help to engage with them. Picture books have wonderful stories that even my older students can have fun with reading and discussing. \r\nThese books have helped to make our sessions more dynamic and fun! I remind students that although they are capable and encouraged to read longer chapter texts, the lessons and themes in the picture books are still informative and interesting. It can help to build their confidence as well in seeing how far they've come from when they were younger and reading these books on their own or with their classes. \r\n\r\nThank you again for your support and funding.
