What started as a wish for a classroom rug has become so much more. Thanks to your generosity, we now have a space where students can come together, share ideas, ask questions, and feel like they belong.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the rug, they were so excited! They immediately fell in love with the colorful leaves, and everyone wanted to find their own leaf to sit on. It was such a simple moment, but seeing their excitement reminded me just how much the little things can mean to our students.\r\n\r\nOur rug has quickly become the heart of our classroom. We begin our lessons gathered together, preparing for the day's learning, participating in turn-and-talk discussions, and exploring new ideas. Students also love using the rug as a workspace when they want to be closer to the board. But beyond academics, I've noticed something even more meaningful: this gathering space has helped us build a stronger sense of classroom community.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments happened recently with a third-grade class. We were gathered on the rug discussing what it means to be kind and how we can make sure everyone feels included. Listening to the thoughtful ideas my students shared reminded me how much they truly care about one another. It was a wonderful example of how our rug has become a place not only for learning science and engineering, but also for learning how to be good friends, classmates, and community members.\r\n\r\nOur learning continues to grow from this space! Currently, my first graders are exploring different environments around the world as they prepare for an engineering challenge to design a shoe that could help someone survive in one of those environments. Our rug has been the perfect gathering spot to watch videos, ask questions, share observations, and begin thinking like engineers.\r\n\r\nAs I continue through my first year in my very own classroom, I feel incredibly grateful for the support that helped bring this space to life. Because I teach every K–4 student in our school, your generosity reaches so many young learners each day.\r\n\r\nYou didn't just help us get a rug. You helped us create a place where curiosity, kindness, creativity, and community can grow together.\r\n\r\nThank you from the bottom of my heart for making such a meaningful difference in our classroom and in the lives of my students!","fullyFundedDate":1787264325622,"projectUrl":"project/a-soft-spot-for-big-ideas/10473113/","projectTitle":"A Soft Spot for Big Ideas","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. C","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7439895_orig.jpg?crop=272,272,x136,y49&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1786810634183","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7439895"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_60810","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":290,"numTeachers":31,"percentFrplEligible":56,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":75,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":15,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":2,"gradesServed":"K - 4","studentTeacherRatio":"9.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":72.7,"schoolId":60810,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about William P.
