At the end of last year I was able to throw a neon party for several classes in different formats that allowed the students to have some excitement and we created a neon cave where the students could go through like a tunnel to see their work light up. We did the neon party with this squishy paper craft where the students were able to create this trending toy sculpture and they were able to use the markers and color pencils to help design their work. \r\n\r\nThe students keep asking me about the neon party which is really exciting to know that it made a very big impact I plan on doing the neon party again and we still have the materials so that the students can create more ideas. The students have been able to create their own sketchbooks in a few classes so far and I estimate that several other students will be able to create sketchbooks. Before the school year ended last year we created some sketchbooks that the students were able to design the covers for and then at the beginning of this year students were able to design their own sketchbooks. \r\n\r\nIt feels like the gift keeps giving because the resources that were provided enabled so much more to happen in my classroom. My students are using the new garden resources to observe plants, learn what living things need to grow, and take responsibility for caring for something outside of themselves. One of their favorite moments has been getting their hands in the soil, planting seeds, and checking on their plants to see if anything has changed. When they first saw the garden materials, their excitement was immediate—students were eager to touch the soil, examine the seeds, and ask questions about what would happen next. Their curiosity turned a simple gardening activity into a hands-on science experience filled with questions, observations, and discoveries.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue caring for our garden while using it as an extension of our classroom. Students will monitor plant growth, make observations, measure changes, and record what they notice in their science journals. We will also discuss the importance of plants, healthy foods, and how gardens can benefit our school community. As our plants grow, students will have opportunities to compare their observations, share what they have learned, and celebrate the progress they have made.
