This was a great way to start the year! Most students loved reading this both inside and outside of class. Many of my \"book worms\" finished the story within a day or two!\r\n\r\nDuring our study, each day students started with a short, silent reading period. They picked up reading from home. Then for the lesson, we referred to a selection of the text to study a skill. All the time, the joy of \"The Outsiders,\" allowed me to teach literary analysis while students thought I was just helping them enjoy reading.\r\n\r\nI used this text as the base of study for theme, characterization, and setting among other literary skills. It is the base of comparison for all our studies as we proceed through the year -Starting with \"The Outsiders,\" for every text I ask the students is this a good book? Is this a text that will be read 10, 20, 50 years beyond today? Why?\r\n\r\nA number of students told me that they enjoyed the book, and it the first book they have enjoyed as a chapter book or beyond a Manga or Graphic Novel. \r\n\r\nThank you so much for helping bring alive one of the greatest young adult novels to my students!","fullyFundedDate":1753973914418,"projectUrl":"project/help-make-my-students-insiders-for-rea/9461726/","projectTitle":"Help Make My Students \"Insiders\" for Reading","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Murphy","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10078735"},{"teacherId":9286124,"projectId":8672877,"letterContent":"My students were so excited when they first saw the new materials—especially the colored pencils and teacher stamps! They immediately started brainstorming how they could use them in upcoming projects. One memorable moment was during our science unit on ecosystems. Students used the journals to track their observations and the poster paper and colored pencils to create vibrant food web diagrams in small groups. The stamps have become a fun motivator—they love earning one for thoughtful responses or neat work.\r\n\r\nWith these resources, our next step is a collaborative project where students will design a \"mini museum\" display about different biomes. They'll use the journals to plan, the pencils and dispensers to stay organized, and the poster paper to build colorful and informative exhibits. In my classroom, I have a bulletin board with a bunch of clear folders filled with various coloring pages. Students use them if they finish work early and as a calming tool. They are always excited to see what coloring pages are available, as they change often and I try to theme them to different holidays and events. I was unfortunately out on leave due to an injury, and even in my absence the students used it everyday.\r\n\r\nThe students are incredibly grateful for the materials. When I was extremely low on paper, I could only print out a few pages at a time, and they would get so disappointed when all of the coloring pages were gone at the end of the day.\r\n\r\nThank you again! I only get 2 boxes of paper per school year, and it not only has to cover the coloring pages, but attendance rosters, forms, and classwork as well.
