This library was selected to fill in gaps in technology while also being culturally responsive. I picked biographies based on dancers from all different backgrounds in hopes the dancers can see themselves and others. The library is filled with diverse dancers and beautiful artistry that is inspiring.\r\n\r\nSo far these books have been read and some have even been used to assist in public speaking practice. My students and I cheered when it was funded. When I first told them I made a project they cheered; but then I told them it was for books and they quickly said things like \"Seriously\" and \"That's all you're getting?\". But then I explained that these were books that represented them; I let them look at the list of books and choose ones of their own and suddenly they were just as excited as I am when it comes to books. \r\n\r\nBooks!!! I cannot begin to tell you the amount of reading these kids have done since that shipment of books has arrived. It makes me so happy that I have likely cried a few times already. If I were to try to do the math of how many pages they have read I'm sure it would be in the hundred thousands. I have seen students over these last few months who never picked up a book before, begging to read longer than the amount of time in independent reading. We read everyday for twenty minutes before we get truly started with our class each period. But I have had kids sneakily reading, I say sneakily but really I see them, under their desks while I am talking or transitioning to our lesson just so they can read that last bit of a chapter. Each Quarter the kids compete in a challenge to try to be the first class to read 100,000 pages. Let me tell you, this quarter a group of 7 girls completed it in a little under 3 days of constant reading at home. I have a student who just today told me that the book I chose for her is her absolute favorite book, despite never finding a favorite before. Books can truly change lives.","fullyFundedDate":1739369984195,"projectUrl":"project/help-boost-my-8th-grade-library/9105934/","projectTitle":"Help Boost My 8th Grade Library!","teacherDisplayName":"Mx. This is the first time I have ever reached out to an organization to help with getting supplies for my students. We are is a season of teacher shortage and funding for schools are being cut. Well, one of my co-workers encouraged me to sign-up for Donors Choose and put my list of classroom items that I needed for my students to be successful in this world of technology. \"When I first saw that people had given to my project, I was so excited and couldn't believe that people took the time to read my story about my students. \r\n\r\nWhen Items arrived\r\n\r\n\r\n\"The day the boxes arrived, my students felt... excited about the supplies\" There were ready to open the boxes to see what the class received. One by one they opened each box. These supplies were needed because we were out of them in the classroom. The students were also excited many of the items received would help them with projects and also help improve their reading skills and scores. \r\nWhen my students return to school next year\r\n\tWhen my students return to school next we will be ready to start the school year off with a \"bang\". These supplies are much needed because with the budget cuts and lack of funding from the school system we often fall short of what we need in the classroom for the students to be successful. Many of our students come from low income families with parents working two or three jobs just trying to make it. Often, the parents just don't have the money to get what their child needs in the classroom .Getting these supplies and computer equipment is just what we needed to help the students to become successful in Reading.\r\n \"When they found out this project was funded, my student told me she can't wait to use the computer to create \" Book creator\" that was online to create our stories. Another student said we can you use the supplies in our writing of essays Ms. Johnson and our book projects we have to complete once a month. The students were so excited they wanted to stay with me during their lunch period to help unpack the materials. My students and myself want to thank you for your gift.
