Telling time is one of those skills that can be difficult to understand when it is only taught on a worksheet or classroom clock. Having an individual clock in their hands has made the learning much more active. Students can move the hands, build different times, check their thinking with a partner, and explain how they know what time they have made. They love being able to \"be the teacher\" and challenge a friend to make a particular time!\r\n\r\nThe paper trays have also become an important part of our daily routines. Because students share desks with another class, keeping papers and materials organized can be challenging. Having a designated place for their work has helped students take more responsibility for their materials and has made transitions much smoother.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue building our understanding of time by connecting what we practice with the clocks to real-life situations. Students will be using their clocks to solve problems involving schedules, elapsed time, and daily routines. We will also continue practicing classroom organization so that students can independently manage their materials and be ready to learn.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving my students resources that allow them to learn by doing. Students have a choice between playing a game by themself or with one or two classmates. In ELA, I made games to support students in spelling, decoding and word study. I was even able to send home the games and play with a student that I teach virtually who has Leukemia. Word Study Battleship is a class favorite right now!\r\n\r\nSince, several different colors of cardstock were donated, I was able to make the same game in different colors to make clean up of materials easy. I also noticed some students picking the same book and reading it together. \r\n\r\nThe second thing I noticed was that my most struggling students wanted to also read the chapter books like the rest of their classmates. With a limited supply of color copies, I had to print worksheets, anchor charts, visual aids and pictures in black and white. But after receiving our printer, I've been able to print these in color, creating more engaging visuals to aid in learning. These colorful images really have helped students make connections and build vocabulary, while learning how to utilize these resources while learning. Since they are more engaged, they are producing more language and developing their English proficiency skills. \r\n\r\nSome examples of items I have printed in color are bilingual classroom labels for a new student who speaks Arabic, vocabulary flash cards for our new science unit on force and motion, and bilingual Spanish/English alphabet charts to support my students learning letters and sounds.
