When students first saw the machine and realized they could turn their ideas into real buttons, the excitement was immediate. They gathered around asking how it worked and what they could create. Right away, students began designing buttons for our Read Across America celebrations, proudly wearing messages about their love of reading and favorite books. Seeing their designs become something they could hold and wear made the experience feel meaningful and real.\r\n\r\nStudents helped create buttons connected to our schoolwide reading activities, designing messages that celebrated books, characters, and the joy of reading. These buttons sparked conversations across the building as students proudly explained their designs to friends and teachers. It was powerful to see students take ownership of reading in such a creative way. One student smiled and said, \"Now everyone knows I love books.\" Moments like this remind me that literacy can grow in joyful, unexpected ways when students are given the chance to express themselves.\r\n\r\nThe button maker will now become a permanent part of our library makerspace, where it will continue to support media and library lessons. Students will use it to create buttons connected to book recommendations, research projects, identity lessons, and school reading initiatives. This tool helps students move from simply consuming information to creating and sharing ideas, which is a key part of media literacy. Because of you, our students have a new way to combine reading, creativity, and self-expression in the library.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping make our library an even more joyful and inspiring place for students.","fullyFundedDate":1762267710643,"projectUrl":"project/brand-builders-designing-our-identity/9835510/","projectTitle":"Brand Builders: Designing Our Identity, One Button at a Time!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Johnson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp580749_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1772919219726","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ohmissjay"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_97559","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":636,"numTeachers":29,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":96,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":1,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"21.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":41.0,"schoolId":97559,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Henderson - Hopkins School 368 on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Henderson - Hopkins School 368","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/maryland/baltimore-city-public-school-district/east-baltimore-community-high-school-368/97559"}
