Instead of being confined to traditional desks, students now choose seating that helps them focus best, whether that's wobble stools, floor cushions, or scoop chairs. This sense of choice has empowered them to take ownership of their learning in a way I hadn't seen before.\r\n\r\nOne powerful moment that stood out was during a recent STEM challenge where students were designing and building simple structures. I watched as groups naturally spread out across the room, some laying on floor cushions sketching plans, others sitting on wobble stools actively discussing ideas. The movement and comfort allowed them to stay engaged longer, collaborate more effectively, and truly immerse themselves in the problem-solving process. Students who previously struggled to sit still were suddenly leading conversations and contributing thoughtful ideas.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the excitement was incredible. Students walked into the classroom wide-eyed and immediately asked, \"We get to sit there?\" They were eager to try everything, and we spent time learning how to use each option responsibly. It quickly became clear that this wasn't just \"fun furniture\", it was a tool to help them learn better.\r\n\r\nNext, we are continuing to build on this momentum by incorporating flexible seating into our project-based learning units. Students are beginning a new collaborative STEM project where they will research, design, and present solutions to real-world problems. With flexible seating, they'll be able to move through different stages of the project; brainstorming, building, testing, and reflecting, in ways that best support their individual learning styles.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, our classroom has become a more inclusive, engaging, and student-centered environment. My students feel trusted, comfortable, and excited to learn every day, and that has made all the difference.\r\n\r\nThank you for making this possible!","fullyFundedDate":1716215444997,"projectUrl":"project/pbl-flexible-seating/8408323/","projectTitle":"PBL Flexible Seating","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Revels","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2376471_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1470625645999","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/nrevels"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_64120","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":504,"numTeachers":34,"percentFrplEligible":16,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":86,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":7,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"14.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":70.6,"schoolId":64120,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Bodkin Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Bodkin Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/maryland/anne-arundel-county-public-schools/bodkin-elementary-school/64120"}
