With their own books, students are now able to read at their own pace, collaborate in small groups, engage in meaningful discussions using text evidence, and participate more deeply in whole-class conversations.\r\n\r\nFor some students, Wonder is already their favorite book of all time, and they are loving the opportunity to revisit it, this time sharing their thinking and insights with peers. With other students who have never read this book before, it is quickly becoming a new favorite for them. \r\n\r\nInspired by the book's message, we started a \"Kindness Matters\" board in our classroom. Students use it to give shout-outs to classmates when they notice acts of kindness. This ties directly to one of the book's central ideas: \"When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind.\" Watching students recognize and celebrate each other in this way has been amazing. \r\n\r\nWonder is such a meaningful and impactful book for our fourth graders. In our district, middle school begins in fifth grade, just like in the novel, so using this book during their final year of elementary school allows us to have important conversations about kindness and empathy. It helps students understand how small actions can make a big difference in the lives of others, something your donation beautifully demonstrates.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping make this experience possible for our students. Because of your donation, they are not only reading more deeply, but also learning how to support one another and think more carefully about kindness in their everyday lives.","fullyFundedDate":1766109363267,"projectUrl":"project/literacy-lift/9910684/","projectTitle":"Literacy Lift","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sullivan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10069437"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_65307","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":222,"numTeachers":21,"percentFrplEligible":27,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":19,"percentWhite":63,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":6,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 4","studentTeacherRatio":"10.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":55.6,"schoolId":65307,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Frank I Brown Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Frank I Brown Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/maine/south-portland-city-school-district/frank-i-brown-elementary-school/65307"}
