It has given us a cozy space to learn, talk, and spend time together.\r\n\r\nWe are still getting into our first grade routines and learning how our classroom works. Rugs are so very expensive, but yet also a crucial piece of our learning space. In the past, I haven't been able to afford a large classroom rug so my students have been crammed on a small one or sitting on the cold tile during lessons. It really hindered the warm, welcoming environment that I strive to provide my students. \r\nNow that we have this beautiful, spacious rug it has completely changed and enhanced my instruction. Every student has a space to sit. Every student has enough room to be comfortable so that they can focus on their learning. Every student has been more focused during instructional time at the rug. \r\nThis rug has completed our classroom as if it was the puzzle piece we were missing. I have 11 students this year and each one of them loves being able to have their own \"slot\" for charging their iPads. We are not longer tripping over wires, losing chargers or charging blocks, and the iPads have been charged and ready to go each day!\r\n\r\nI have labeled each slot with each students' names and it is so easy for them to find their slot and plug in their iPads.\r\n\r\nWe use the iPads for a variety of tasks but we mostly use them for math and reading apps. It has been so much easier using this cart to get each iPad charged and ready for the next day. In previous years, I had to scatter chargers around the room and hope that I had enough outlets for my whole class to plug in their devices. Sometimes, I would even have to split them in half and have only have the class charge one day, and the other half the next. This worked for the most part, but devices can be finicky and would sometimes die before it was their turn to get plugged in. \r\nHaving this cart allows all of my students to have a charged device at all times so that whenever they need them they are ready to go! This saves us so much instructional time now that we don't have to worry about dead devices. \r\nWe use our iPads for various things to enhance our learning experience in second grade. We have math programs that I can specifically tailor to each students needs. We have reading apps that bring books to like on their screens. I take pride in using them sparingly in the classroom, as I know moderation is key. My students were beyond excited when they first saw all of the new games, toys, and activities. There were huge smiles, and so much excitement as they explored the different options together.\r\n\r\nWe use these materials during indoor recess, choice time, and as opportunities for students to practice teamwork, problem solving, sharing, and communication skills. \r\n\r\nThese resources have also helped students practice important social-emotional skills like taking turns, being flexible, and learning how to solve problems together.
