The students have had a blast playing the bells and xylophones. We used the bells when singing winter themed songs in December and used the step xylophone and mallets to explore melodic direction. \r\nI'm not sure how to emphasize how impactful the mallets have been for our classroom. Mallets are to a general music room as pencils are to an elementary classroom. They are the tools that enable learning. My students LOVE playing instruments. These mallets and bells are simple but engaging ways to reinforce steady beat, tone color, rhythm and melody. We will continue to make use of them for a long time.","fullyFundedDate":1762267676381,"projectUrl":"project/music-makes-sense/9687025/","projectTitle":"Music Makes Sense!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Smith","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/central-smith-03908"},{"teacherId":9496267,"projectId":9883818,"letterContent":"What a fantastic month this has been. We are so incredibly grateful for the headphones you purchased for us. The students have found them to be comfortable, in fact, they often forget they even have them on because they are so engrossed in their learning! Here is what we have been up to:\r\nIn Kindergarten and First Grade, the students have been using the website Chrome Music Lab to explore the elements of music. They use Chrome Music Lab's Songmaker to compose songs with a variety of timbres, tempos, harmony and rhythm. We talk about patterns in music and ways they can make their songs memorable. The headphones allow the kids to work quietly without disturbing the other students. Chrome Music Lab is a free website that is accessible to students at home. I love the thought of them using it during vacation week. It's a great alternative because they are acting learning and creating.\r\nOur third grade students have been learning about the history of hip hop and rap. Last week we used an online virtual drumming site to create our own hip hop beats. We practiced speaking to a beat, first by naming items in a category and eventually by using end rhymes to create our own raps. Next week, students will share out their raps with the classmates in a \"rap battle\". Headphones allow them the privacy and focus to create without distraction.","fullyFundedDate":1763579874108,"projectUrl":"project/lets-hear-it-for-creativity/9883818/","projectTitle":"Let's Hear it for Creativity!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Smith","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/central-smith-03908"},{"teacherId":9496267,"projectId":9284380,"letterContent":"Wow! October was the most magical month ever thanks to you! My second grade students have been absolutely fascinated with American folk songs. Whether it is \"This Land is Your Land\", \"Tideo\", \"Under the Spreading Chestnut Tree\" or \"Dem Bones\", they just can't seem to get enough. They sing with enthusiasm, heart and passion. I really wish you could hear them too!\r\n With the addition of the two xylophones, the students can now accompany themselves with ostinato patterns and/or arpeggios. This has helped them to maintain a steady beat, zero in on their harmony and take ownership of their musical learning. And this is just the second grade! Our kindergarten and first grade students improvised their own fossil music based on the piece 'Fossils\" from Carnival of the Animals, just in time for Halloween! Next up, composing melodies using quarter notes, eighth notes and rests.\r\n Thank you for supporting imagination and play through music education. I couldn't do it without people, and businesses, like you.","fullyFundedDate":1752586571454,"projectUrl":"project/x-is-for-xylophone/9284380/","projectTitle":"X is for Xylophone","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Smith","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/central-smith-03908"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_65827","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":387,"numTeachers":27,"percentFrplEligible":13,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":91,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":3,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 3","studentTeacherRatio":"14.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":55.6,"schoolId":65827,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Central School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Central School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/maine/rsu-35-msad-35/central-school/65827"}
