This experience not only brought literature to life but also introduced students to valuable lessons about resilience, identity, and the complexities of family and belonging. Through engaging discussions, students explored themes of empathy, perseverance, and the power of storytelling.\r\n\r\nIn the English classroom, reading was an interactive and reflective process. Students dove into text with curiosity, analyzing characters, themes, and writing styles while connecting stories to their own lives. With How to Build a Heart, many students were especially drawn to the protagonist's journey, leading to thoughtful conversations about personal growth and overcoming challenges. Having the author visit and share insights into her creative process made these lessons even more impactful.\r\n\r\nThe excitement surrounding the book was especially evident in our creative writing students, who asked insightful questions about crafting authentic characters and building compelling narratives. Most students expressed newfound motivation to pursue their own writing projects, inspired by Maria Padian's journey as an author.\r\n\r\nThis event was a truly special experience, made possible by our generous donors.
