When the students received their watches they wanted to run and walk all around the school. The students tracked their steps daily and kept track of the progress they were making on the trail. The students would come in each morning and get their watches, the students took advantage of the recess time and each tried to have the most steps by the end of the day. It became even more engaging when some of the teachers and janitorial staff used their own devices and participated with the students. Students learned about the geography of the trail and had to estimate how many miles it would be until they reached the next place to camp for the night. \r\n\r\nThis school year I plan to do this again because it was highly loved and enjoyed by all, the students got to see that if they really wanted to try and accomplish this hike when they are older all they had to do was enjoy taking the journey. I plan to trace the map on a reusable and foldable surface and hang it on a bulletin board, I also plan to have mini 3-D hiking boots printed and students will mark their progress in that manner. \r\n\r\nI truly want to thank you again for donating to this project because our school is so small and living in such a rural area donations like this is huge. So I would like to truly say thank you for making this possible for my students.","fullyFundedDate":1742858919508,"projectUrl":"project/virtually-walk-the-appalachian-trail/9197831/","projectTitle":"Virtually Walk the Appalachian Trail!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Smith","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9973367_orig.jpg?crop=1813,1813,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1742509475704","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9973367"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_65524","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":73,"numTeachers":5,"percentFrplEligible":71,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":94,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":1,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"5 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"14.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":58.1,"schoolId":65524,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Mount Jefferson Junior High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Mount Jefferson Junior High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/maine/aos-90/mt-jefferson-junior-high-school/65524"}
