Because of your incredible generosity, our classroom was able to purchase 30 copies of The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. To you, it might have been a donation; to us, it was an invitation into a world that has completely changed the way we look at stories and the world around us.\r\nThe Impact of Your Gift\r\nFor many of us, this was the first time we really dove deep into a dystopian society. We've spent weeks discussing survival, fairness, and what it means to stand up for what is right. It's been eye-opening to see the differences between the movie we've all seen and the actual novel. We realized that while the movie shows the action, the book shows the heart—Katniss's thoughts, the quiet moments, and the details that a screen just can't capture.\r\nNavigating these pages has made us better readers and sharper thinkers. We aren't just looking at words anymore; we're looking at themes of sacrifice and bravery.\r\nKindness in Action\r\nBeyond the lessons in the book, you taught us something even more important: the kindness of strangers. Knowing that people we've never met cared enough about our education to buy us these books really moved us. It made us realize that the world has plenty of \"Peetas\"—people who are willing to give even when they don't have to.\r\nOur Turn to Pay it Forward\r\nWe decided that we couldn't just take this gift and keep it for ourselves. We want to be part of that cycle of kindness. Before school is out, we are organizing a \"Dunk Tank\" fundraiser during our school Field Day! We've already recruited some of our bravest teachers to get dunked to help us raise money.\r\nOur goal is to pay it forward by:\r\n * Raising enough money to buy a full class set of books.\r\n * Donating those books to a sister school in our area or to next year's class so they can have the same \"aha!\" moments we did.\r\nTime moves fast, and while our school year is coming to an end, the impact of your donation is just beginning. You didn't just give us books; you gave us a lesson in humanity. We are different students than we were at the start of the year—more thoughtful, more grateful, and ready to make a difference for someone else.\r\nThank you for believing in us.\r\nWith sincere thanks,\r\nThe Students and Teacher of Mr. Cannon's 7th grade Enrichment Classes","fullyFundedDate":1773871331104,"projectUrl":"project/may-the-odds-be-ever-in-our-favor/10021783/","projectTitle":"May the Odds Be Ever in Our Favor!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Cannon","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10404496_orig.jpg?crop=225,225,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1768339273360","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10404496"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_14898","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":576,"numTeachers":27,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":31,"percentWhite":55,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":8,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"21.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":58.3,"schoolId":14898,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Cecilia Junior High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Cecilia Junior High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/louisiana/st-martin-parish-school-district/cecilia-junior-high-school/14898"}
